Les problèmes de fécondité chez les chevaux avec un grand potentiel d’élevage ne sont pas rares et ont des répercussions aussi bien émotionnelles et techniques qu’économiques. Malgré les méthodes de reproductions modernes le taux de mise bas reste inférieur à celui de la nature.

Des études conduites à l’ISME sur des juments en contact permanent avec un étalon montrent des changements important du comportement sexuel et une meilleure fertilité. De plus des études menées en collaboration avec l’école de vétérinaire de Hannovre, de la faculté Vetsuisse de Berne et des universités de Lausanne et Neuchâtel approfondissent la recherche sur l’interaction entre la jument et l’étalon.

Stute und Fohlen

Les découvertes sur le comportement social et sexuel du cheval permettront alors d’améliorer la fertilité et la sécurité. Une réflexion éthologique est en cours sur les méthodes de reproduction. D’autres domaines tels que la biodiversité, la vitalité de la descendance réserve encore des découvertes étonnantes.
